Delaware Latin Workshop

The Delaware Classical Association will be hosting another of our popular Latin Workshops on Saturday, November 9, from 9 AM to 1 PM, at the Embassy Suites on South College St. in Newark, across from the Delaware Stadium on Route 896. The Workshop is open to Latin teachers at all levels, advanced students, and interested members of the community. We look forward to a lively morning of workshops, discussions, networking, and good food and fellowship. Thanks to a generous grant from CAAS, there is no charge to attend.

Announcement: International Conference on Dio of Prusa

A conference on Dio of Prusa will be held at the University of Nantes, France, May 21-23, 2015.  The proceedings of the conference will be published.  Please send a brief (10-15 lines) abstract to Thierry Grandjean (tgrandjean1@yahoo.fr) or to Gianluca Ventrella (gianluca.ventrella@univ-nantes.fr) by December 9, 2013.  E-mail either of the above addresses requesting a full description of the conference, its goals, and its rationale.

CAAS Travel Subsidy Announcement

CAAS is offering travel subsidies of up to $800 for travel to the 2013 Annual Meeting in Philadelphia. Only CAAS members are eligible for these subsidies, which are need-based, and priority for funding will be given to presenters of papers, panel participants, and presenters. Application forms must be sent as email attachments to Judith P. Hallett at jeph@umd.edu no later than August 30, 2013. Notification of subsidies will be sent to applicants by September 16, 2013, and they will receive their checks when they pick up their registration materials at the meeting.

Announcements from the West Coast

The World Languages Department at Wenatchee Valley College announces a new web site to support its Latin program as well as spoken-Latin activities in the Pacific Northwest“Boreoccidentales” provides a forum for the events and activities of the Circulus Latinus Seattlensis (“Seattle Latin-Speaking Club”) and the Conventiculum Vasintoniense/Septimana Californiana. The web site also houses Cataracta, an online journal, with works by modern Latin authors. Inclusion in the online journal is open to anyone, world-wide! Septimana Californiana, based on the lovely campus of Loyola Marymount University, is a full-immersion Latin workshop offering thought-provoking discussions, readings from Latin literature, Latin composition exercises, communal meals (most of which are included in the price), and informative lectures given by expert Latin speakers on a variety of topics. Participants will also enjoy guided tours, given in Latin, to many of Los Angeles’ sights. Excursions include the Huntington Library, the Getty Center, the Long Beach Aquarium, and downtown Los Angeles.
