The Classical Association of the Atlantic States brings together scholars, teachers, students and all who share an interest in the ancient world. Through our annual meeting, grants and scholarships, and journal Classical World, we support scholarship and teaching and build connections across the classics community.
The CAAS Annual Meeting
Each October, classicists, educators, and students from across the Atlantic region gather for the CAAS Annual Meeting, which includes three days of panels, workshops, and networking dedicated to the study and teaching of the ancient world. The 2026 meeting runs Thursday, October 8 through Saturday, October 10 at the Hotel Du Pont in Wilmington, Delaware, and includes sessions for scholars at every career stage, from students to emeriti faculty. Registration closes September 15, and need-based travel subsidies are available for those who qualify.
Classical World
Classical World is our peer-reviewed scholarly journal, publishing research, reviews, and pedagogical resources on the languages, literature, history, and culture of ancient Greece and Rome. Published since 1907, it remains one of the longest-running journals in the field, serving researchers, instructors, and students alike. The journal is edited independently of CAAS’s administrative offices, with separate business and editorial teams handling subscriptions, advertising, and manuscript review.
Grants, Scholarships & Awards
Grant and scholarship programs — including the Hahn Scholarship and the Masciantonio Grants — provide funding for research, professional development, and student opportunities at every level, from high school through graduate study. CAAS supports its members and the broader classics community through a range of awards and funding opportunities. Each year, the Ovationes & Gratulationes and the Barbara F. McManus Leadership Award recognize outstanding contributions to the field.
