This contest is open to any student enrolled full-time in high school during the current school year. An award of $250.00 will be given to the author of the best entry written in English on the specified theme. The entry may be an essay, a short story, a play, a poem, or any original literary work. The American School of Classical Studies at Athens seeks an active scholar and experienced archaeologist to direct its excavations at Ancient Corinth. Familiarity with the School’s program of excavation and research at Ancient Corinth is highly desirable. The Director works with the staff at Corinth in developing and conducting the fieldwork and documenting the results. The Director supervises the collections of the excavation and the publication of all finds. The Director administers the School’s plant and facilities at Ancient Corinth. The Director participates in the School’s activities, including its academic program and the instruction of students at the School through its field training program. The Director identifies projects for funding and helps to identify possible sources of funds for Corinth. Good command of Modern Greek is essential. Each year at its annual meeting the Association presents ovationes to members          who have been selected by the Awards Committee for their significant service to the discipline and the organization. The ovatio  is read in Latin by a colleague close to the honoree at the banquet, while copies of the ovatio in Latin and English are distributed to attendees.

The ovatio recognizes long and distinguished service to CAAS and/or to the classics  community by those in the CAAS region, especially by those retiring or concluding a long term of service.

The Awards Committee is now accepting nominations for 2017 CAAS ovationes, to be presented at the 2017 October annual meeting. Nominees and nominators need to be CAAS members in good standing. To nominate a candidate to the Awards Committee for an ovatio, please download and complete the nomination form.
